Making sense of seasonal produce
Dr Will Stahl-Timmins has created a working prototype of his seasonal food calendar, aiming to promote the use of home grown produce.
As one of the Centre’s associate research fellows, Dr Stahl-Timmins focuses on the visualisation of data across a number of research projects and themes.
However, the creation of a food calendar that informs users of what fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood is in season is a topic close to the researcher’s heart.
Dr Stahl-Timmins says “Those of us who have grown up in a world of global commerce and huge supermarkets have become accustomed to getting whatever we want, whenever we want it. However, we sometimes forget that there is a wealth of delicious produce grown close to where we live. I’ve designed these calendars to show when the UK’s commonest delights are available, increasing the awareness of what’s available from local producers.”
Take a look at the short video explaining the calendars and how to use them above, or visit Will’s blog for more information.
