Professor Fleming receives prestigious award
Professor Lora Fleming received the prestigious Bruun Medal last week, recognising her outstanding work in the field of oceans and human health.
Delivering the Anton Bruun Memorial lecture at UNESCO in Paris, Professor Fleming focused on efforts to recognise the health and wellbeing impacts of our interactions with the oceans.
She stressed the growing evidence that inextricably links the sustainability of ocean ecosystems with human health, highlighting the ways in which human actions are damaging these fragile – environments with dramatic consequences for our own wellbeing.
Speaking to an international audience of oceanographic experts and delegates from UN nations across the world, Professor Fleming also drew attention to the enormous potential to enhance health and wellbeing through interactions with our coasts and oceans.
Oceans and Human Health is a key area of research at the Centre, and a field in which we are helping to lead with partners across Europe. More information on this area can be found here.
