Tim, currently engaged in research at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health and Centre for Geography and Environmental Science (CGES) on the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus, is dedicated to exploring the feasibility and social value of indoor environment sensor systems. Specifically, his research aims to assess the potential impact and effectiveness of these sensor systems in enhancing health and wellbeing within the context of social housing. This work aligns with Tim’s broader commitment to applied research and collaborative efforts in the fields of geography, environment, and health.

Tim holds a BA in Geography from Swansea University, an MSc in Rural Social Science Research from Newcastle University, and a PhD titled ‘Geographies of Risk, Uncertainty and Ambiguity in Catchment Management’ from Exeter University. His doctoral research, funded by ESRC, explored environmental risks and uncertainties in catchment management, leading to key contributions to the Loe Pool Forum environmental partnership.

Following his PhD, Tim engaged in impactful postdoctoral work, collaborating with organisations like Volunteer Cornwall and Age UK. His diverse projects included enhancing volunteer strategies and exploring digital mapping solutions for community transport. Tim then served as a Research Fellow on the Smartline project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, where he played a pivotal role in supporting SMEs in Cornwall to innovate health and wellbeing solutions.

Currently, Tim is actively contributing to the EPSRC-funded SenseWell project, conducting a feasibility study on home environment sensor systems to enhance independent living services. His career showcases a commitment to applied research and collaboration across academia and various sectors.
