Dr Jo Garrett is a Research Fellow at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH) focused on the interactions between human health, well-being, and the environment. Jo is predominantly a human geographer, utilising quantitative and GIS approaches.
Jo first joined the University of Exeter to carry out a European Social Fund PhD with the title “Interdisciplinary study into the effect of a marine renewable energy testing facility on underwater sound in Falmouth Bay”. This involved recording underwater sound over 18 months during trialling of the Fred Olsen wave energy converter, BOLT Lifesaver, at the Falmouth Bay Test Site.
Jo then joined ECEHH to work on the BlueHealth project https://bluehealth2020.eu/ and, since then, has worked on HEROIC: Health and Economic impacts of Reducing Overheating in Cities; the REGREEN project, focused on valuing nature-based solutions in cities; EXPO-ENGAGE (as PI) which aimed to co-produce a research plan for air quality citizen science in two areas in Cornwall and South Wales; and RECONECT – utilising systems thinking in nature-based solution evaluation.
Jo currently works on exploring the relationships between people and biodiversity.
