Prof Emma Bland is a founding member of the European Centre. Following degrees in environmental biology and soil conservation, Emma first worked in sustainable development before moving to the higher education sector. Joining the Medical School in 2004, her work has had a strong focus on partnership working, working across the public, private and voluntary sectors. Her research interests are supporting local level action on climate change, and addressing healthy housing and independent living through indoor environmental monitoring. She also continues to support business engagement and innovation through her position as Co-Director of Business Engagement and Innovation for the Dept of Public Health and Sports Sciences.
Emma’s work focuses in two overlapping areas of interest; local action on climate change adaptation, and improving health and wellbeing outcomes through indoor environmental monitoring (healthy housing). Working in transdisciplinary teams, Emma’s work is focused on how research can inform practice and as such she works with practitioners to explore and address practical barriers and opportunities for change to improve health and wellbeing.
